Consumer Product Safety Commission National Research Center

Rockville, Maryland

The Consumer Product Safety Commission's new national laboratory is the singular location for CPSC to oversee its mission of protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. The CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical or mechanical hazard or that can injure children. CPSC's newly expanded and renovated laboratory facility is the only one of its kind in the nation. Each lab is outfitted with specialized, often customized, testing equipment including flammability test chambers, carbon dioxide testing chambers, fireworks storage compartments and a 12,000 gallon test water tank.
