Delaware School for the Deaf

The new, 129,500 sf educational, counseling and residential (21,200 sf) facility for pre-school through high school hard of hearing and deaf children is organized into two classroom wings that separate younger children from the middle and upper school-age students by a central courtyard. An auditorium, cafeteria and gymnasium are configured off of a central spine that connects the entire lobby to the east edge of the courtyard. The development of specialized audio/visual communication systems are on important set of building technology components. All instructional spaces are designed within NCR 20 standards to maintain an very low noise threshold within each space.
