Gaudreau, Inc. was engaged by Duke University (and Longfellow Real Estate Developers) to develop a facility program and the follow on design for this research and development facility. This building is part of Duke University's initiative to develop a new urban research center in downtown Durham. The Carmichael Building brings together various research programs that had been located on and off campus, the most significant program being the Steadman Center.
The design team developed the space plans for each research program for inclusion into a historic renovation, consisting of two floors and totaling 115,000 sf of space. The building program consists of public reception areas, offices, research laboratories, specialized laboratories and processing areas, cell storage and other common function spaces.
