West Annapolis Elementary School is an existing building that was in great need of expansion and updating to meet current educational programming as well as the latest building and accessibility codes. Gaudreau, Inc. developed a modernization plan that included the construction of a new, two-story, 40,000 sf addition and 8,000 sf gymnasium where an existing 1956 structure was demolished. Also included in the project was the full renovation of a 10,000 sf wing originally built in 1984.
Gaudreau, Inc. was able to develop a unique idea to remove the existing brick veneer on the addition and replace it with a more suitable, historic brick blend while saving the existing footings and foundations. The new gymnasium evolved into a more historic structure with open steel joists, clerestory windows and climbing walls.
